I have been doing quite a bit of art lately and it has taken a couple different directions. The overall consensus is that I feel good after any art session even if the outcome is what it is. Notice I didn’t say good or bad, because right now my art is what it is and I am still loving it.
The Series
I made a few passes through my current series acrylic paintings and then took a detour. Here is the gallery of my paintings.

These are works in progress but I am just not feeling them. That’s probably why I stepped away for a couple of weeks. The palette does not make me happy and the marks are not giving me anything, so I am glad took a break. I will be working on them later today and may paint over them completely. The first thing I want to do is create a palette of colors that make me sing because that is the mood I am in right now. Once that is done, I will start making marks and see where that takes me. Watch for the next post!
The New Project
I have always wanted to paint/draw portraits but felt that I had no talent. Since began this journey back into finding my art path, I have discovered that maybe it’s not talent, instead it is skill and seeing that makes my portrait art so terrible. I am feeling like the only way to approach this is through hard work and persistence, so I have set myself up for a 100 Project. That is 100 faces in 30 days. I am on face #47 having started on November 14 but it is December 6, so I am now in a rush to meet my deadline. Don’t you just love the pressure we put on ourselves!
I’ve been doing pencil sketches in a A5 sketchbook, I started out doing realistic faces with shading and just trying to keep the proportions close. I have done a few multiple times and think that I am getting closer. Now I am switching to contour drawings without lifting the pencil trying to capture what I am seeing by looking at shapes, proportions, and relationships. I am really enjoying it and have noticed that I am really seeing and feeling the faces.
I am not going to post my sketches. I found these faces in Pinterest randomly and am just using them to practice, but after researching copyright laws, posting these may be considered stealing. The next few days I am probably going to go through family photos and then start sketching them. These I will post!
Back to doing more art – I have a studio Zoom call the Art2Life Academy in just a few minutes.
