As an artist, I need to start sharing my work, and today is the day to get going. This will be an exciting yet daunting journey. Putting myself out there for the world to see is terrifying. However, I am willing to do that because it can help me grow as an artist. It will also develop me as a person. Not only is sharing my work scary, but setting up a site poses its own set of challenges. I firmly believe I can tackle it one step at a time, one blog at a time, one painting or drawing at a time. Each small victory will build my confidence. I invite you to join me as I struggle along, facing the ups and downs of this creative process. Together, we can explore what it means to be vulnerable and brave in the world of art. In the words of Henri Matisse – “Creativity takes courage.” It is through this courage I can openly express myself and connect with others.
I learned a lot from doing those small painting. I tried a variety of techniques, I was not afraid to experiment. I experimented with my painting and then if I was not happy with it, I painted over it. Nothing was precious, nothing was bad. It was just practice and good use of my time. So my work is work in progress, just like me.
The image in this post is just one of many from this past summer. I tried to do a small painting (8 x 8 inches) in acrylics each day. The girl in this painting is a Native American horseback rider in a parade in Billings, Montana. Some of my paintings were images from memories; some purely abstract. I experimented on each and really enjoyed the small amount of time I spent on each. The images on the front page are also some of those small paintings.
